Essential Gear Requirements for Lacrosse Game Officials in New Mexico
Boys Officials for High School Games
Mandatory Gear

Shirt – 2″ black and white striped, short-sleeve with zipper and byron collar. American flag over the right chest, either as a patch or sublimated/dyed on. Not a basketball shirt. Note: We are changing from 1″ stripes to 2″ stripes for 2025.

Shorts – solid black, with belt loops, at least 7″ inseam. No athletic shorts or cargo shorts.

Hat – black baseball cap with white piping on it.
✦
Socks – solid black, quarter-length socks. No crew or no-show socks.
✦
Shoes – solid black, athletic shoes or cleats.
✦
Belt – Black with simple buckle.
✦
Flags – Yellow with black ball-ends (x2).
✦
Whistle – Fox-40 with finger guard. Recommended to have at least two.

Timer – Lacrosse timer that records 100 and 20 seconds each. There are several online to shop for.

Scorecard and Pencil – Recommended to have one designed for lacrosse to test the inside of the lacrosse head.

Tape Measurer – Must extend to at least 72″ to measure sticks.

Coin – Half-Dollar size or larger for pre-game coin toss.
Optional Gear

Jacket – solid black. Multiple jackets for rain protection or extreme cold are optional.

Undershirt – black if worn under the striped shirt.

Bag – black and weatherproof for storing your extra gear.

Knit Hat – black if everyone on the crew is wearing them.

Gloves – solid black for those cold days in Santa Fe and Los Alamos.
Girls Officials for High School Games
Mandatory Gear

Shorts or skorts – solid black. No athletic shorts or cargo shorts.

Hat – black baseball cap or black visor are acceptable.
✦
Socks – solid black, quarter-length socks. No crew or no-show socks.

Shoes – solid black, athletic shoes or cleats.

Shirt – Pink NMLOA shirt for youth games (provided free of charge by the NMLA).

Shorts or skorts – solid black.

Hat/Visor – black. For youth games, all types of hats are allowed as we spend many hours in the sun. Wide-brimmed hats are acceptable.

Shoes – solid black preferred but not required.

Flags – Yellow with black or yellow ball-ends (provided by the NMLA).

Note: Simply speaking, black clothing is best and we understand many Jr. Officials are dipping their toes into refereeing so please come prepared for all weather.
